UNICEF has commissioned an analysis of country policies and programmes for community health workers, how they have been implemented and their effectiveness in improving their work conditions in three African countries (Niger, Mozambique and Zambia). The analysis will adopt a gender lens, by looking at the sensitivity of the policies to gender aspects of the profession and to address gender equality gaps, while identifying key implementation successes and challenges. The aim is to derive a set of recommendations for each country, as well as recommendations for UNICEF on how to support countries in general to promote gender equality through their health systems.
