In 2018, UNDP launched a new initiative to support the achievement of the SDGs by helping countries make progress on the specific gender-based violence and related targets (the “Ending GBV and Achieving the SDGs” project). This project is piloting innovative approaches to GBV prevention and response and uses the findings of what works and what did not to advocate for better policies and programmes to address and prevent GBV. The pilots are being designed, evaluated, and costed, in order to estimate the returns on investment, and the costs of possible scale up to reach a greater number of people. UNU-IIGH is a global think tank that conducts policy-relevant research on global health, with a particular focus on countries’ efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and in keeping with the principle of “leaving no one behind”. UNU-IIGH is leading lead the research and policy translation on the costs and value for money of the pilots along with innovative financing of the localised GBV plans. Based on the evidence generated by the pilots, UNU will synthesise the lessons learned that can be transferred to other settings and to scaled up levels of implementation.
