UN Resident Coordinator visits UNU-IIGH

    On Monday, 12 June, the new United Nations Resident Coordinator for Malaysia, Mr. Stefan Priesner paid a courtesy visit to UNU-IIGH. Mr. Priesner who is also the UNDP Representative for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam as well as the Representative of UNFPA in Malaysia was briefed on the history, mission, and academic activities of the Institute by the Interim Director and OIC, Dr Obijiofor Aginam. Mr. Priesner, who has recently assumed his role in Malaysia following his immediate past mission as UN Resident Representative for the Republic of Uzbekistan, was on a familiarization tour of UNU-IIGH to get a sense of the history and mission of UNU-IIGH and to explore the best ways the Institute could contribute to the work of the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Malaysia. After the briefing by Dr. Aginam, Mr. Priesner spent time to interact with UNU-IIGH research fellows and administrative staff on a range of issues ranging from the Sustainable Development Goals to climate change, and the challenges facing the United Nations Development Group in countries. He called on UNU-IIGH to continue its excellent research activities with a view to contributing its in-house expertise to the UN Country Team in Malaysia.
