On 11 November 2017, Prof. Jamal Hisham Hashim, a Visiting Professor at UNU-IIGH was invited by the Penang State Government, to speak at the 1st Penang Medical Expo and Malaysian Healthcare Policy Conference (PMEX 2017) held at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Penang. PMEX 2017 was officiated by Mr. Lim Guan Eng, the Chief Minister of Penang. Prof. Jamal’s talk was on “Sustainable Development in Preserving the Environment and Public Health.” Amongst others, he spoke on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the importance of sustainable development in light of the recent landslide and flooding in Penang, and why Penang should aspire to become a sustainable city and community.
