Ninth Meeting of the UN Task Force on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases

    The Ninth Meeting of the United Nations Interagency Task Force on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases was held in Geneva, 9-10 October, 2017. Hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO), the meeting was attended by 20 UN agencies and other member organizations including UNU-IIGH. Members reviewed the summary of the Eighth Task Force Meeting (21-23 February 2017) and while noting that many areas of action had progressed, agreed that future summaries would benefit from a reduction in the number of action points. The Task Force received updates from the following global joint programmes: (i) Be He@lthy, Be Mobile; (ii) cervical cancer; (iii) the joint cancer programme; (iv) NCD governance; (v) FCTC 2030; and (v) FCTC2030. It discussed extensively tobacco control, global action plan on physical activity 2018-2030, and future strategic directions. UNU-IIGH was represented by Deputy Director, Dr Obijiofor Aginam who shared the Institute’s recent activities on NCDs including the outputs from the international conference on “Obesity Crisis in Southeast Asia”.
