    The University Kebangsaan Malaysia Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARI) hosted the International Conference on Sustainable Cities, Communities and Partnerships for Development Goals (SDGs) from October 5-7 at Menara Kembar Bank Rakyat in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. UNU-IIGH hosted a panel, “Cross-sectoral Perspectives on Heat as an Obstacle to Walkability in the Tropics.” Dr. David Tan convened the panel, which included Ar. Chan Seong Aun from Green Building Index, Ir. Masitah binti Salleh from the Infrastructure Planning Department of Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, and Mr. Phubalan Karunakaran from WWF Malaysia. The panel examined linkages between infrastructure and design for reducing heat exposure of pedestrians and the SDGs, as well as the contributions and challenges of researchers, local government, developers, and civil society in addressing this issue.
