On 26–27 February 2015 UNU-IIGH Senior Research Fellow Dr. Obijiofor Aginam attended an informal expert consultation on the implementation of International Health Regulations (IHR) in national legislation. Convened by the World Health Organization International Health Regulation (IHR) secretariat in Geneva, the group of experts considered some of the challenges and lessons from recent disease outbreaks, especially Ebola, and assessed the process for the development of WHO guidance on IHR implementation. Participants also discussed future approaches, innovations and tools to conduct legislative assessments in the health sector and beyond and enable the public health sector to work together with relevant sectors in national contexts.
For a description of International Health Regulations, see the WHO website.
