Professor Abdallah Daar Appointed to UN Secretary-General’s new Scientific Advisory Board

    UNU-IIGH is delighted to advise that Professor Abdallah Daar from the University of Toronto has been appointed to the Scientific Advisory Board to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr Ban Ki-moon.

    This newly established board comprises internationally renowned scientists representing various fields of natural, social and human sciences.

    The main function of the board is to provide advice on science, technology and innovation for sustainable development with objectives of strengthening links between science and policy, and ensuring the latest scientific findings are reflected in high-level policy discussions within the UN system.

    Prof Daar, who currently chairs the UNU-IIGH Board of Advisors, brings expertise in medical science, public health and international development to this new role. The appointment recognizes his outstanding contribution in the broad field of global health.
