Disasters occur as a result of natural, man-made or hybrid causes that  may result in loss of life, material and economic resource; which overwhelms the capacity to cope or to respond.

In the event of a disaster, emergency management goes through four phases of response. These phases are mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery  which aims to minimize loss of lives, effect on people, damage to the environment, assets and reputation of relevant parties.

States in Malaysia, including Johor, utilize a three-level disaster management process which correspond to each regional level capacity and capability of disaster response. Level 1 Disaster Management is designated for district level management committee, Level 2 Disaster Management is designated for state-level management committee and Level 3 Disaster Management is designated for central or national level management committee. The discussion will focus on public health perspective and experience, for each level of disaster management in Malaysia.

Brochure and seminar details available here.
