Habitat III is the third United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development held in Quito, Ecuador from 17 to 20 October 2016. The aim of the conference is to renew the political commitment for sustainable urban development, review achievements since Habitat II twenty years ago and address new and emerging challenges. The outcomes will be an action-oriented outcome document called NEW URBAN AGENDA setting the direction for the next couple of decades.
UNU-IIGH is contributing to this in event in various ways. In January 2016, the institute hosted an Urban Thinkers Campus. Its outcomes have influence The City We Need 2.0, an input document compiled by the World Urban Campaign, an engagement arm of UN Habitat. In July 2016, UNU-IIGH will be represented at the third preparatory meeting, Prepcom 3, and contribute in various ways.
