  • Shiang Cheng LimShiang Cheng Lim joined UNU-IIGH in May 2018 as a post-doctoral fellow to work on a case study analysis of the building of the health system in Malaysia. She obtained her PhD in Gerontology from the Malaysian Research Institute on Ageing (MyAgeing), University Putra Malaysia. Before joining UNU-IIGH, she worked as a Research Project Manager at Steno Diabetes Centre Malaysia/Copenhagen, a non-profit research and teaching institution on diabetes care and prevention.

    While completing her postgraduate studies, Shiang Cheng worked as an independent consultant with various international and UN agencies including UNFPA, WHO, UNAIDS, International Planned Parenthood Federation – East, South East Asia and Oceania Region (IPPF-ESEAOR) and the International Council on Management of Population Programmes (ICOMP), which entailed interdisciplinary research and programmes related to sexual and reproductive health (SRH), abortion, HIV, gender-based violence, ageing, cognitive function and impairment and non-communicable diseases. Her research largely focus on how complex contextual factors (social, cultural, law, policies and system) influence people’s health-related behaviour and decisions. She is also interested in how people’s health can be improved through a multidimensional approach to create an enabling environment and effective health system that provides universal health coverage.
