Nicola Suyin Pocock


  • Nicola Suyin PocockNicola joined UNU-IIGH in August 2017 as part of the Urban Health team. She is a mixed methods researcher. Her PhD thesis examined the health needs of trafficked fishermen from Mekong countries and explored how potentially trafficked fishermen were identified and assisted in Thailand. Nicola was an inaugural fellow of the Equity Initiative (2016-17), a leadership programme for health equity in Southeast Asia funded by the China Medical Board foundation and the Atlantic Philanthropies. Previously she assisted the China Medical Board with regional grant-making communications. She was also a data consultant with The Asia Foundation/ILO, reconciling and analyzing baseline datasets on child labour in the seafood industry in Thailand. Before starting the PhD, Nicola was a health systems researcher at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore, and the M&E/research manager at aidha, a non-profit providing financial and business education to migrant domestic workers in Singapore.
